Know where every herd goes — twice a day

Graze Planner answers AM and PM: which paddock should this herd graze next? You still decide. Suggest, approve or override, then confirm after they graze. Rest days come from your grazing log — not a satellite picture.

The 4 am problem

Several mobs. Two moves a day. The rotation sitting in one person’s head.

🧠

It's all in your head

Rest days, who grazed where last, which paddock is blocked — if the manager is away, the plan is gone.

⏱️

Decisions eat the morning

By the time AM is worked out on paper, cows are already waiting at the gate.

📋

No shared record

Suggest, approve, override, and confirm are written to the farm log so the team can see what actually happened.

Suggest → Approve → Confirm

Three steps on Today and the 10-day planner. Confirm only runs on an approved slot. Nothing is saved from Mate until you tap Save.

1

Suggest

Settings choose who picks paddocks: Mate (copies this farm’s grazing log) or the old engine (longest rested first, plus history, distance from the dairy, and neighbours). You can fill empty cells for the next 10 days in one go.

2

Approve or override

Accept the pick, change the paddock, or clear the slot. If collision prevention is on, a paddock already planned for another herd that session is flagged before you save.

3

Confirm

After they graze, confirm writes the grazing log. Rest days update from that log. Approved slots only — a suggestion cannot be confirmed.

Built around the AM/PM rhythm

What the website and Android app actually do today. No satellite cover. No plate meter required for the rotation.

📅

10-day planner

Every rotational herd, AM and PM, colour-coded suggested / approved / completed. Dashboard for today and tomorrow; planner for the ten days.

🔄

Rest-day rotation

Suggestions use days since the last graze or cut, your farm’s target rest, and (if you turn it on) whether the paddock can be walked from the dairy.

🐄

Herds, buckets, dry stock

Milking herds rotate. Dry cows and heifers can sit on a block (continuous) with a daily occupancy log so rest days do not drift. Sick-pen buckets have their own rules. Each herd stores pasture per cow per day and how much of a strip they actually eat.

🗺️

Farm map and Draw tape

Draw paddocks, gates, and laneways on the existing satellite map. Draw tape saves tonight’s break fence inside a paddock for an approved session (today through the next 10 days). Yellow is the saved tape. You draw; Mate does not save the polygon.

💬

Mate

Farm chat on the website and the phone home tab. Looks up this farm only — plan, history, rest, weather on file, paddock photos. Can propose a write; you tap Save. For a strip it sizes hectares from cows × intake × utilisation and a cover number or photo. Same recipe every session. It will not invent cover or walk the tape for you.

📱

Android app and this website

Same login. Phone: Mate, Today, Plan, map, strip pins or GPS, herds, logs. Website also installs as a home-screen app and can queue some saves when the signal drops, then replay them. iPhone uses this website in Safari — there is no iOS app yet.

Also in the product

Team logins, a collision warning, and a grazing history you can export.

Invite workers from Settings. Roles are Viewer (read), Supervisor (plan and draw tape), or Admin. Every query is scoped to your farm. Other customers cannot see your paddocks or log.

👥
Team on one farm
No per-seat fee in checkout

Override can warn if another herd is already on that paddock that session. Confirm and many planner posts can sit in an offline queue on the website and sync when you have signal again.

⚠️
Collision check and patchy coverage
Warning on override · website queue

Logs keep the confirmed grazes. Export them as CSV from the Logs page. Reports sit on the website. After you confirm, rest days and the map stay on the same record.

Common questions

Do I need a plate meter or satellite cover? ▾
The rotation does not. Suggestions use rest days and grazing history. If you ask Mate how much tape to give, it needs a cover in kgDM/ha or a paddock photo. It will not invent cover. There is no NDVI / satellite cover in the running app.
Can I override a suggestion? ▾
Yes. The engine recommends; you approve, change the paddock, or clear the slot. Overrides can carry a reason. Confirm only works after the slot is approved.
How do heifers and dry cows work? ▾
Non-lactating mobs can use continuous grazing — they stay on a paddock until you move them. The system writes a daily occupancy log while they sit there so rest days stay honest.
What does Mate do? ▾
It talks about this farm: the plan, history, rest, recorded weather, and paddock photos. It can propose a change; you tap Save or it is not written. For a strip it calculates hectares from cow numbers, intake, utilisation, and cover, then opens Draw tape. Same hectare recipe every session — it does not split a three-feed paddock 50 / 30 / 20, and it does not draw or save the fence.
Is there a phone app? ▾
Android yes — same login as the website. Download the APK, or open Settings → App after you sign in. Chrome may warn it is not from Play Store; that is expected. iPhone is not ready; use this website in Safari. The website can also be added to the home screen and will queue some actions if you go offline.
Is my farm data isolated? ▾
Yes. Farm id comes from your login or phone token, not from a number you type in. Other farms cannot see your paddocks, herds, or grazing history.
